In general, Islamic scripture, Qur'an, hadith and sunnah, exhorts women not to alter their natural beauty, either through artificial means of improvement such a jewelry or by reducing their beauty with what is seen as blemishes such as tattoos. Scholars up to the modern day follow the lead of the of the scriptures and preach against women engaging in an entire range of practices which are seen to artificially affect their beauty.
De manière générale, les écritures islamiques — Coran, hadiths et sunna — exhortent les femmes à ne pas altérer leur beauté naturelle, que ce soit par des moyens artificiels d’embellissement tels que les bijoux ou en diminuant leur beauté par ce qui est considéré comme des défauts comme les tatouages. Les savants, jusqu’à nos jours, suivent la voie tracée par les écritures et prêchent contre le fait que les femmes s'engagent dans toute une série de pratiques qui sont vues comme affectant artificiellement leur beauté.
